A quote by a visitor from Europe:
We spent an unforgettable holiday, the place is something rare, special, mix land and sea in a wild and desert way.

5 of 5 starsI have just returned from staying three weeks at villa one Chukka Cove with my wife and Two children, boys 8 and 14. Often you read about a place and build a picture in your mind of how its going to be and so often expectations are disappointing, this was the opposite.

Firstly thanks to Trish the property agent who took care of the booking and my thousands of questions back and forth advice on what to do to take etc. She was extremely helpful kind and patient inspiring confidence that all would be ok.

Janet the on sight manager took care of final arrangements and airport transfers for us and ensured all was in place on our arrival a hot meal and stocked fridge.

The location of this villa could not be more idyllic nestled on the north coast it holds the best position of a cluster of villas mostly privately owned or rented by discerning guests. None too close as to be obtrusive. The view overlooking the Caribbean were breath-taking the sea changing from clam to crashing waves and 50 shades of blue !
You are able to watch the sun rise and set and it blazes overhead the rest of the day .There is a small sandy cove where the children could play and build sand castles. When calm it was possible to jump off the cliffs straight into the sea and snorkel directly in front of the Villa. If the sea was a little choppy a two minute walk led to a private sheltered cove with great cliff jumping and fantastic snorkelling with corals and tropical fish almost like swimming in your own aquarium.

A short stroll or swim left of the property led to another bay with great snorkelling with huge stingrays and a cave with roosting bats.  The gardens around the property are pristine with Jamaica’s finest flora flowering plants and fruit bearing trees. Carlene is happy to provide ripe fruits and prepare them something we will treasure.

Sitting on the veranda it is possible to watch three species of humming bird come and go the one being the second smallest bird in the world. The house itself was tastefully decorated rustic with an equestrian theme well suited to the setting situated on Chukka polo club. in the description you could feel there would be some disturbance from the local chukka cove adventure centre, bar, horses, atvs etc. Not at all.

The villa is utopia, the sound of the sea , bird song and occasional bark, meow or neigh. The villa has a real family feel to it. Carlene is heaven sent and more like a doting mother and friend. She is happy to prepare all meals and leave an evening meal before going home. She is extremely flexible. I had some dishes I wished to try and she made some great suggestions. I recommend her oxtail and chicken curry, but do not miss curried goat , jerk chicken , and breakfast Jamaican style salt fish or mackerel cooked in different ways roasted breadfruit , fried green banana, fried plantain , dumplings oh my mouth is drooling.

Tempting as it was to just eat in we ate out a lot too and would recommend Scotties and sharkies resteraunts nearby. Scotties for jerk and sharkies for seafood. ( seafood platter is to die for). Carlene was so good with our boys and was happy to watch them when we went on small errands. I cannot praise her enough.

We hired a car for the duration of our stay, I have travelled extensively and the north coast high way is a great road but driving in Jamaica is not for the novice of faint hearted.  There is a great shop run by Janet within walking distance from the villa and is stocked with all you need as is competively priced a great quality. They are able to do some shopping for you too for a small fee.

There are some great tours to do with Chukka cove farm with a good discount we did not do any ourselves as we had the car and made our own adventures.  My main concern was safety and we were worried initially but Horace and the lovely Ridley live on site and were quick to great visitors. We felt very safe.  The villa is in our opinion the prettiest of the bunch with gorgeous gardens, terrace and verandas with its resident cat Reds this is a home and a world away from the tourist all inclusives.

The property is clean and well maintained all appliances, aircon, showers working as it should . With a family of four and two big boisterous boys we had acres of space in bedrooms and living areas. The swimming pool was in constant use by the boys and is small but large enough for them to play in.

Nature is my passion fauna and flora but especially birds and snorkelling there are great. Snorkelling opportunities on site fine corals and fish.  I saw 17 endemic bird species in the grounds and numerous others besides as well as mongoose, many species of bat and butterflies. If fitness is your thing then there are endless tracks to explore behind the farm where the ATVs go affording excellent jogging or hiking.

The villa is situated in such a position as to be a great centre to go on so many fantastic trips and to visit tourist attractions without being in a touristy area.  I hesitate to say this as I would like to keep the secret to myself but I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It is utterly charming in a perfect location with the friendliest kindest caring people on the planet in attendance.

My wife and youngest cried when we left. I am missing it terribly already. We never go back to the same place twice and we have already started thinking about returning next year and are looking to buy something similar of our own.

Book with confidence and feel free to contact me directly with any questions.

A piece of our hearts remains in Villa 1 chukka cove thank you all for the vacation of our lives and sharing your home. One love, respect and unity.

My 16-year old son and I had the privilege of staying at this wonderful home for a week in June. I can hardly describe the beauty of this villa’s grounds and the feeling of a complete decompression we experienced while staying there. I had to keep the camera by my side every minute we were not in the water as I have found myself continually taking pictures of the ever changing ocean and all the amazing nature that was around us. When we weren’t snorkeling at the nearby cove we loved sitting under the passion fruit vines covered patio and just staring at the ocean. Every day we picked at least one ripe passion fruit, and they were delicious. There are mango, bread fruit, avocado, ackee, and almond trees overburdened with their fruit growing throughout the property. A short walk west along the ocean side you’ll find a path to the cave. It is only chest-deep at the deepest part and is stunningly beautiful inside and out. A protected cove located just a short walk (or swim) east from the property is a great snorkeling spot and is a safe haven when you don’t want to deal with the waves if the ocean is not perfectly calm.
The property owners have graciously provided the services of a wonderful cook named Carlene. Not only did she spoil us with the exotic dishes that she cooked for us, she also went out of her way to accommodate special requests. When I have time I watch Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, and in the episode covering Jamaica Andrew samples Mannish Water and Ackee with salt fish. I asked Carlene and she cooked it for us the next day and it was very delicious. My son and I are divers and Carlene arranged a driver to take us to a reputable dive shop. The coral was healthy at the sites we dove and we got to see eel, lobster, sea cucumber, rays, and plenty of fish.
A 5 minute walk south from the property is the Chukka Caribbean Adventures outfit that offers a variety of tours and activities. We took their bus tour to the birthplace of Bob Marley (25% discount for staying at this property!) Even if my son and I were not reggae enthusiasts we still would have loved the trip because it was informative (kudos to the tour guide) and a perfect opportunity to see Jamaica’s country side and people.
It was all beautiful.
